While each of the 12 Zodiac signs are unique in their special way, the signs are grouped into FOUR elements that tend to share similar characteristics. This is especially helpful when determining your compatibility with someone (for any type of partnership) because the elements work together in different ways!
The four elements of zodiac signs are the elements that form the world itself: FIRE, EARTH, AIR, and WATER. Life as we know it can’t exist without all of them!
FIRE: Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius
EARTH: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn
AIR: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius
WATER: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces
So . . . what the hell does that even mean?!
The Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Just like the name suggests, fire signs tend to be . . . you guessed it: FIERY! They are passionate, dynamic, and temperamental. Fire is a powerful element: it can keep you warm (just like a fireplace in your home) or it can cause destruction to anything and everything in its path (if unchecked, it could burn your house down). In many ways, fire signs are very loyal – but you definitely don’t want to cross them as it will surely burn! It only takes one small spark to cause a huge forest fire. As such, fire signs tend to move very quickly. These signs need to be nurtured, but there is no denying the warmth and power they bring to any situation.
Strengths: Energetic. Passionate. Power. Competitive. Action-oriented.
Areas to improve: Temperamental. Aggressive. Impulsive.
The Earth Signs
You know the kind of people that always keep it real? They probably have a couple of earth placements in their chart! The Earth grounds us, and as such, earth signs tend to be stable, grounded, and practical. These are the kinds of people you’d want to look over your resume or help you pack your house when moving. Earth signs are go-getters: the “CEOs” of the Zodiac. They tend to be slow to anger – but when they DO get angry, you’re going to want to get the hell out of the way (it’s no surprise that Taurus is represented by a bull, now is it?) “Slow and steady” is the name of their game. They are inherently loyal and stable, and stick by their relationships and project through hard times. (READ: Stubborn AF.)
Strengths: Pragmatic. Stable. Ambitious. Responsible. Resourceful.
Areas to improve: Materialistic. Stubborn. Resistant to change.
The Air Signs
I like to call the Air signs the “social smarties” of the Zodiac. Air signs are the kinds of people who think creatively, communicate effectively, and then go ahead and do the damn thang. Just like the wind, air signs are all about motion – they love change and are constantly dreaming up new ideas and solutions that are outside-of-the-box. Because of this, they can often be caught up in the clouds — almost lost in fantasy. These signs always lead with their mind. Air signs are wonderful visionary leaders, and are the type of people you want to call when you need someone to think of a brilliant idea. Air signs are master chameleons and tend to get along with just about anyone, just like a breath of fresh air. Your social butterfly friend? Yeah, they are probably an air sign! Air signs are as independent as they come; you’ll have a tough time keeping up with their natural free-spirited nature.
Strengths: Innovation. Communication. Intellectual. Spontaneous. Adaptable.
Areas to improve: Elusive. Hard to read. Insensitive.
The Water Signs
Intuitive, emotional and ultra-sensitive, life as a water sign can sometimes feel like you’re standing under a waterfall. Just like water, these signs can be perfectly refreshing, or capable of drowning you altogether. Water signs are so much more than bottles of emotions, as they often will have intense dreams and borderline-psychic intuition. They are eerily observant and pay attention to every last detail. Water signs can be mis-identified as shy when they’re purely in their own minds, deep in thought. Their imagination is one of their greatest qualities, and these signs tend to be incredibly creative!
Strengths: Intuition. Emotion. Empathy. Creative. Caring.
Areas to improve: Overthinking. Easily distracted. Indecisive.
