A common question you might hear often is something the lines of “What are the best zodiac signs?” or, alternatively, “What are the worst?”
To be crystal clear: there are no “good, better, best” or “losers” when it comes to placements in your chart. In the world of astrology, it’s a lot more nuanced than that. Each sign is powerful and vital in its own way. Every sign has its unique set of traits encompassing both strengths and weaknesses.
Let’s explore the personality of each sun sign, from the ever-so fabulous to the palm-to-the-forehead attributes you’d rather ignore. As always: self awareness is key, isn’t it?
ARIES (March 21 – April 19)
It comes as no surprise that Aries kicks off the zodiac as these audacious souls love to be number one. As the ram suggests, Aries are bold, ambitious, and waste no time going any situation. Picture this: someone born to be a leader with searing passion, motivation, relentless determination, and confidence. A fan of all things quick and dirty, Aries tend to dislike a lot of details or unnecessary nuances. They are as direct as you can get.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)
Often called the “cosmic oxen” of the zodiac, Taurus are all about self care, money, and security. Ruled by Venus (the planet of love, beauty, and money), they are the most sensual sign of the zodiac. Any physical manifestation of comfort and money enchants them to no end. Pleasure is a necessity! In a perfect world, you would catch them relaxing in a serene bubble bath, enjoying a neck massage, and noshing on a decadent dessert to pamper themselves. That said, they know the value of a dollar and work hard to achieve big rewards. They are ambitious and focused, to the point of being stubborn. Sometimes they stay in unhealthy situations longer than necessary. Taureans are all about the long game, baby! Taurus is fixed sign which often is reflected in their steadfast, loyal nature.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 20)
Symbolized by the celestial twins, the air sign of Gemini represents the struggle of being so busy that you wish there were two of you to get everything done. They are as playful and curious as they come, constantly juggling many passions, hobbies, friend groups, and more. Geminis are the social butterflies of the zodiac, and they can talk to anyone about anything. You will find them channeling their energy to pioneer innovative projects. Hard for them to say “no,” they love to try new things. Their attention span, however, is short – expect them to move on quickly from one thing to the next. Ruled by Mercury, communication is especially important for Geminis. One of my personal favorite qualities of a Gemini is their ability to move on from embarrassing missteps (from talking too quickly) – they quickly recover.
CANCER (June 21 – July 22)
Effortlessly capable of picking up energies in a room, Cancers are highly intuitive and highly sensitive to their environments. Similar to their spirit animal (the crab), Cancers are protected by hard, external shells. You might find them cold, or even distant, but after time you will see their gentle nature and compassion. It will likely take some time to get to know them. Cancers care deeply about their families. But when they invest in someone in an emotional capacity, it’s important to monitor their nurturing behavior before it becomes controlling. Cancers are very loyal and can be a bit of a homebody. Sometimes they can be passive-aggressive, mainly as a means to avoid conflict directly. They don’t enjoy talking openly about what’s bothering them.
LEO (July 23 – August 22)
Represented by the lion, Leos are vivacious fire signs that like to be the kings and queens of the celestial jungle. In other words, they love to bask in the spotlight. Leos are natural-born leaders, passionate beings, and enjoy friendships and romances that are artistically and creatively inspired. They never get tired of lavish parties or exclusive dinners – roll out the red carpet by all means! Ruled by the Sun, they are well know for their stability, loyalty, and consistency. Tread softly: if you impair their ego, pride, and jealousy, watch out! Leos are renowned for their remarkable bravery – a divine expression of physical, mental, and emotional fortitude. They are fearless optimists who refuse to accept failure.
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)
Virgos are logical, practical, and systematic – perfectionists at heart. They aren’t afraid to improve through diligent and consistent practice. Virgos can be hyper-aware of every detail. Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, Virgo deals with information like a computer. They are able to transform anything into organized, clear concepts. It’s important for Virgos to remember that perfection doesn’t exist, and it can be destructive. Flaws aren’t defects! Virgos are best known for wanting to help. These are the kind of supportive people who use their intellect and resourcefulness to problem-solve in a practical way. They’re constantly trying to improve anything and everything.
LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)
Accurately represented by the scales, Libra’s are all about balance and harmony. They love symmetry and are considered the aesthetes of the zodiac. They love to surround themselves with stunning objects and create environments that reflect their tastes. Libras tend to focus on “we” instead of “me.” Relationships are very important as they find balance in companionship. They tend to be motivated by physical appearance. Libras are the people pleasers of the zodiac and must remember that the happiness of their personal relationships is more important than maintaining the attention of those in their outside circle. They are great at launching new things but can struggle with indecision. It’s important for them to trust their own intuition instead instead of constantly seeking outside perspectives. They can navigate virtually any social situation by turning on their infectious charm.
SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)
Typically the most misunderstood sign of the zodiac, Scorpios are often mistaken for a fire sign because of their passion and power. However, as a water sign, Scorpio gets that intensity and strength from the emotional realm and can be very intuitive. Like their spirit animal, the scorpion, their sting can burn. Scorpios are often playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers: they wait and strike when least expected. They are willing to play the long game; they know what they want and aren’t afraid to work hard. Scorpios are an enigma, rarely do they show their cards (which is what makes them ever so seductive)! Scorpio’s intense energy can be ambitious and enticing or fueled by a limitless desire for control. They are power-hungry, so it’s important to keep their egos at bay.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)
Truly unlike any other, Sagittarius are unique with their infectious blend of passion, curiosity, intensity, and adaptability. They love to explore and seeking answer in places others wouldn’t dream of going. Their quest for knowledge has no limits, which makes them the best entertainers. Change is the name of their game: it’s imperative they have freedom in all of their geographical, intellectual, and spiritual adventures. They are known for their brutal honesty, but you’ll find it challenging to stay mad at their unparalleled optimism. Sagittarius wants to have it all – nothing is ever enough for them! You’ll find them bouncing from one thing to the next – but they will go all in on anything that intrigues them (until something else catches their eye).
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)
Known as the “CEOs” of the zodiac, Capricorns are uniquely powerful. They have fearless ambition, limitless resilience, and an unmistakeable ability to keep pushing forward despite anything thrown their direction. Capricorns have a rebellious, untamed side to them – a side only their closest friends will see. It’s how they can let loose, after all! Capricorns age like fine wine: they become more youthful, optimistic, and playful as they mature. They navigate both the material and emotional realms, and are relentless in doing so: Capricorns will overcome whatever stands in their way. Because of this intense focus, Capricorns can be perceived by others as unemotional, cold, and cutthroat. Their life motto? “If it won’t matter in five years, I cannot be bothered with it today.” Capricorns are extremely punctual and excellent with time management.
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)
Aquarians are revolutionary, radical thinkers who tend to be rebels at heart. They aren’t fans of authority or anything that is conventional. Aquarians are known as the free-spirits of the zodiac, easily identified by their eccentric ways, unusual hobbies, and nonconformist attitude. They are big thinkers who focus on big picture ideas, which doesn’t help their reputation for being aloof and distant in relationships. They are, figuratively speaking, in the clouds! Like other fixed signs, Aquarius can be quite stubborn. Freedom is imperative, and they view any attempts to challenge their independence as an attempt to control them.
PISCES (February 19 – March 20)
Portrayed by two fish swimming in opposite directions, Pisces’s attention is often between fantasy and reality. Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac, and as such, has absorbed every lesson (joys, pains, hopes, and fears) learned by all of the other signs. As a result, Pisces are the most psychic, empathetic, and compassionate people you’ll find. They are incredibly sensitive and can easily become overwhelmed by emotions. Their imaginations have no bounds. Pisces are very impressionable and tend to wear rose-colored glasses when addressing problems. Some people might call this delusional It’s important for them to remember problems don’t simply vanish if you pretend they aren’t there. Pisces is a mutable sign, and they effortlessly adapt to any surrounding.
