Race Round-up: What Happened in Belgium?

Heavy Rain and Half Points in Shortest Ever Belgian Grand Prix.

P1 – VER

P2 – RUS

P3 – HAM

Heavy Rain, Heavy Delays

Torrential rain was the name of the game on Sunday as heavy downpour hit Spa Francorchamps throughout the day.

Sergio Perez was the first victim of the wet conditions, crashing into the barriers on his way to the starting grid.

Nearly a half hour later, the grid followed the safety car for formation laps until Michael Masi finally red-flagged the race. The race didn’t resume for three hours, but sadly, it just wasn’t a day for racing.

Podium Finishers

Max Verstappen took another victory for the 2021 season, with the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton finishing in P3.

In what was mostly a disappointing day for the sport, spirits were high in the William’s garage as George Russell finished his highest ever in Formula 1: P2.

Half points were awarded to the grid after a gloomy day in Spa with mostly everyone finishing where they qualified on Saturday.

Looking Ahead

The second half of the season continues next week in Verstappen’s home race of Zandvoort. The battle is tight between the two title rivals: a mere three points separating the two.
